Purcell - When I am laid in earth
accompaniment track
Henry Purcell’s “When I am laid in earth” (Dido’s Lament) from Dido and Aeneas is the queen’s farewell as she faces death after Aeneas’s departure. Built over a haunting descending chromatic ground bass, it unfolds in long, grief-stricken legato lines that crest on the plea “Remember me.” A Baroque staple, it rewards poised breath control, expressive yet tasteful ornamentation, and clear English diction with subtle dynamic shading. This is the accompaniment backing track, recorded with a live studio orchestra.
